Barrow Fish & Kebab
About This Spot
Stepping into Barrow Fish & Kebab is like sliding into a familiar, well-loved corner of town where the air hums quietly with the promise of comfort food done right. Tucked away on Brittons Road, this modest spot carries the easy rhythm of a casual local eatery, where the pace slows just enough to appreciate the crackle of freshly cooked fish and the welcoming nods from staff who clearly know their craft and their community.
The place buzzes gently with a mix of chatter and the sizzle from the kitchen, creating a warm backdrop that isn’t rushed or forced. It’s exactly the kind of place you might find yourself visiting after a long day outdoors or when craving something both simple and satisfying. There’s an unspoken invitation here to linger, to share good food with good company, and to enjoy a moment that feels grounded in everyday comfort.
The experience centers around classic, no-fuss dishes that arrive fresh, with a thoughtful generosity of portions that never feel stingy or lacking. The chips, with their unmistakable crispness and just the right heft, are practically a conversation starter. Meanwhile, the fish—meaty and tender—speaks of care taken at every stage, from the fryer to your plate. And for those who wander a bit off the beaten path, there’s an unexpected kebab option that quietly surprises with its own kind of well-crafted flavor.
The atmosphere reflects this sense of honest simplicity: friendly faces behind the counter, respectful nods of familiarity among customers, and a steady, unhurried flow that feels rooted in routine — like a cherished local ritual. It’s the kind of place where people don’t just come for a quick bite; they come to reconnect with a food tradition and a place that, quietly, feels like a part of the neighborhood’s heartbeat.

Great chips - super crispy and comes in a box. Fish and burger were also very fresh. Only negative was the lack of fish in the kids meal option. Not even fish fingers

lovely cod and chips from here, was cooked fresh so took a few minutes but no complaints when the quality is high. it is cash only and atm's aren't common so bear that in mind. there is an atm in the shop next door but it charges you.

I really didn’t have any expectations, I’d spent a few hours pitching up our tent at a local campsite and we just needed food. Well the Cod was the best we’ve had for a very long time, meaty, in fact the whole meal was a delight and cooked to perfection, flavoursome and a good portion. Service, we could not of asked for more. This is a great little fish shop that we’ll definitely be using again.

Delicious cod and chips from here. Cooked fresh. Warming the large chips are LARGE! We ordered 3x large chips for eight people and only ate 2 of them. My son also had a doner kebab rather than fish n chips, and he said it was excellent.
